How to Care for Your Ceramic/Glass Cooktop

I have seen many ceramic/glass cooktops ruined over the years. Most of this is due to not cleaning the cooktop well after each use. Every time you use your cooktop, something will get on it. Even if you are cooking something in the oven underneath. You will inevitably pull it out of the oven, set it on the cooktop and serve from the dish and drip food or grease on your cooktop.

When you are all done cooking and your cooktop has cooled completely, you need to clean it. Remove all items from it. If it is not very dirty, you can use a microfiber cloth with hot water and wipe it off well and dry it with a glass cloth.

If your cooktop is very greasy or dirty, get a sponge with a scrubber that is no-scratch. I like to use the Scotch Brite Blue Scrubbies. Use a little dish soap and water and scrub the cooktop. If food is stuck on, wet the area well and scrape it using a razor blade.

Once you have all the food loosened, grab your microfiber cloth and wet it with hot water and wipe up all the soap. If you find that something is not coming off, use your cooktop cleaner and rub over the spot with a paper towel and scrape it with your razor blade. Then polish it with a clean paper towel.

Dry the surface with a glass cloth to shine it. The cooktop should always have a shiny appearance. When you see it starting to look cloudy, it is time to use a cooktop cleaner. Pour a little on the worst spots and rub it into the cooktop with a paper towel. Polish it with a clean paper towel.
