How to Properly Clean Large Hard-Surface Flooring

Chances are that you have an area in your home that features hard-surface flooring. Hard surfacing flooring is any non-carpet flooring material. This includes solid hardwood, engineered wood, natural stone, ceramic or porcelain tile, luxury vinyl plank or tile, laminate, or linoleum.

So, what’s the best way to clean a large area with a hard surface? Angie recommends using this dust mop and a flat mop. Surprisingly, it is faster and more efficient to clean your hard surface flooring with a dust mop instead versus vacuuming it.

When cleaning a room with a hard surface, Angie recommends starting with the dust mop and walking around the perimeter of the room first. Next, you should walk in two figure eight patterns. Please see the diagram above. Once this step is complete, Angie suggests using this rubber brush to clean the dust mop.

After the floor is clean, you should apply your preferred cleaning solution to your flat mop and start cleaning the floor. Be sure to choose a cleaner that is specific to your floor type.

Once you are done dusting and mopping the floor, you can remove both mop heads and clean them in the washing machine.
